How to Connect a Custom Domain

Learn how to connect your own custom domain to your OutOrdering restaurant website to create a branded ordering experience for your customers.

Custom domains are available on Professional and Enterprise plans

To use a custom domain, you need to be on the Professional or Enterprise plan. If you're on the Starter plan, you can upgrade your plan to access this feature.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure you have the following:

  • A registered domain name (e.g., yourrestaurant.com)
  • Access to your domain's DNS settings through your domain registrar
  • A Professional or Enterprise OutOrdering plan

Step 1: Purchase a Domain (if you don't have one)

If you don't already own a domain, you'll need to purchase one from a domain registrar. We recommend using one of the following popular domain registrars:

Step 3: Configure DNS Settings

After adding your domain to OutOrdering, you'll need to configure your DNS settings at your domain registrar. You'll need to add the following DNS records:

CNAME Record Setup

Add a CNAME record that points your domain to OutOrdering's servers:

Record TypeHost/NameValue/TargetTTL
CNAME
www
proxy.outordering.com
3600

DNS changes can take up to 48 hours to propagate, but typically take effect within a few hours.

Step 4: Verify Your Domain

After configuring your DNS settings, you'll need to verify your domain in the OutOrdering dashboard:

  1. Return to the Domain Settings page in your OutOrdering dashboard
  2. Find your domain in the list and click the Verify button
  3. OutOrdering will check if your DNS settings are correctly configured
  4. If verification is successful, your domain will be marked as active and SSL will be automatically provisioned

Success! Your domain is connected

Once verification is complete, your custom domain is ready to use. Your customers can now access your ordering page at your custom domain.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues while setting up your custom domain, here are some common problems and solutions:

Domain verification fails

If domain verification fails, check the following:

  • Ensure your DNS records are correctly configured
  • Wait longer for DNS changes to propagate (up to 48 hours)
  • Check if your domain registrar has any additional steps for DNS changes

SSL certificate issues

If your site shows SSL warnings:

  • SSL provisioning can take up to 24 hours after domain verification
  • Ensure both www and root domain records are properly configured
  • Try accessing the site with https:// explicitly in the URL

Domain shows "Not Found" error

If your domain shows a "Not Found" error:

  • Verify that your domain is correctly added in the OutOrdering dashboard
  • Check that your DNS records point to the correct OutOrdering servers
  • Ensure you've completed the domain verification process
